Current Trends in Technical Writing Industry

 

The technical writing industry is evolving and experiencing several trends.  Here are some trends that were prevalent at that time:

Plain Language and Simplification: Technical writing was shifting towards plain language and simplification to make complex information more accessible to a wider audience. The focus was on clear and concise writing that avoids jargon and uses simple terminology.

Visual Communication: There was an increasing emphasis on visual elements in technical writing. The use of diagrams, infographics, screenshots, and videos helped to enhance understanding and improve user experience.

User-Centric Approach: Technical writers were adopting a user-centric approach by understanding the needs, goals, and preferences of their target audience. This involved creating user personas, conducting usability testing, and incorporating user feedback into documentation.

Digital Adoption Platforms: Writing is becoming more and more of on-screen content rather than off-screen and offline documentation. The end-to-end flows of a particular operation or on-screen assistance wrt tooltip etc is helping to make the UI more user-friendly.
